Still working on finding a suitable replacement for Google Messages. Found a new one tonight called Textra (found in Google Play). So far it seems like it has good features and is rather customizable.
One quirk, however, is a lot of group text names have been replaced by alphanumeric gibberish. Not all group chats but the majority.
There are other SMS apps I've been wanting to try for a while but they would never load. Ever. This opened right up and navigation is smooth like butter.
I'll give it a week or so and see how it goes.
